R A L E I G H
The Raleigh residence was an awkwardly arranged 3-bed, 2-bath tract home from a previous remodel. The client wanted to remove the galley kitchen and open the entire common space to the backyard. Private bedroom spaces were also reconfigured to grow all the rooms by reducing hallway circulation, creating an office/den area that interconnected the spaces.

EXISTING
The original house had a mid-century feel with its low-profile roof and fixed clerestory windows. We complimented this framework with a warm modern/industrial flair, exposing and polishing the existing slab-on-grade to leave a unique memory of the original floorplan scarred into the finished floor. New high-efficacy doors and windows were added throughout the house, and a rigid roof insulation package was installed above the existing roof diaphragm to generate significant temperature stabilization during the hot summer and cool winter months. A large operable skylight added above the kitchen provided more natural light and a cooling westerly ocean breeze in the main living space. Several rooms feature custom-designed, built-in walnut casework and tile installations.
